Principal Systems Administrator

The Directorate has made commendable progress towards e-government by introducing computerisation of prosecution case administration and management, financial management, human resource management and planning.

The office now runs computerized Prosecution Case Administration Management (PROCAM) at the headquarters, Buganda Road, Jinja and Masaka. The computer Services section is planning to extend PROCAM to Mbale, Mbarara, Fort Portal, Nakawa, Makindye and Gulu in the near future.

The section is currently in the process of going into Enterprise Resource Planning by introducing Navision Attain 3.2. This system contains the following modules, Financial Systems, Cash flow Management and Projection Systems, Inventory Systems, Fixed Assets, Register and Management Systems, Purchases, and Payable, Human Resources Management and Planning.

DIRECTORATE WEBSITE
The Directorate operates a website at www.dpp.go.ug This website contains all the vital information about the Directorate. Clients and website visitors can give their compliments and complaints to the Directorate through the public relations email at admin@dpp.go.ug. The other Directorate's activities like tendering for goods and services and procurement information can be downloaded from the website. We also have a list of some of the recent leading cases successfully prosecuted by the Directorate.

WAN AND INTRANET
The computer services section is moving towards building intranets, workflow and document management systems for the Directorate. A pilot scheme for the mentioned systems was introduced in the 2004/2005 financial year. WAN equipment has been installed in the following locations; Buganda Road, Masaka, Jinja, Nakawa, Makindye and Headquarters. The WAN infrastructure is used for Internet and messaging services only at the moment. The other services such as workflow,Intranet and documents Management will be introduced in due course. The Computer services section is planning to extend the wide area network infrastructure to Mbale, Mbarara, Fort Portal and Gulu in the 2006/2007 financial year. Voice over data services is to be introduced in the 2006/2007. The Directorate has acquired a modern state of the art alcatel 4400PABX system with 128 extensions, which is expandable to 300 extensions; the voice over data will be built around this PABX. The PABX has helped the Directorate to minimise telephone bills at headquarters to an average of 2,450,000 Ug. shilling per month. We hope this will help the Directorate to minimise the cost of telephone calls countrywide since most stations will become extensions of the headquarters.

COMPUTERIZATION LEVEL AT THE DIRECTORATE
The Headquarters of the Directorate is computerized with 14 Laptops, 20 workstations, two servers (Mailbox and operational server running windows 2003 servers Enterprise Edition), 2 heavy-duty coloured printers, 2 heavy-duty Black and white printers, and one scanner. Buganda Road, Masaka and Jinja are computerized with one server each running windows 2003 server with 5 workstations each with one medium heavy duty printer. City Hall, Fort Portal, Gulu, Mbarara, Nakawa, Makindye and Mbale do have two workstation section with a peer-to-peer local area network. The Computer services section is planning to computerize Mukono, Masindi, Arua, Soroti and Kabale in the 2005/2006 financial year.

The section is growing in strength in terms of manpower from one-man department a few years ago to now four staff. These are; the Principal Systems Administrators, a Senior System Administrator, and Two Data Entry Clerks. With the growth in strength, we hope to come up with state of the art ICT setting in the Directorate that would boost and make better service delivery to the Directorate in particular and the Public in general.

Long live the Directorate of Public Prosecutions!
