Mr. Richard Buteera
Director of Public Prosecutions

Mr. Richard Buteera was born on the 9th April 1955 in Ngoma Sub-county, Rushenyi County, Ntungamo District, Uganda. He is Married with children.
Mr. Buteera went to Ngoma Primary School in 1962 - 1968 after which he went to
Mbarara High School in 1969 - 1972.
He then went to Nyakasura School in 1973 - 1974 after which he joined Makerere University in 1975. In 1978 he joined Dar-Es-Salaam University where he obtained a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) Second Class Degree. In 1980 he obtained a Diploma in Legal Practice, from The Law Development Centre, Kampala.
Mr. Buteera started work as an Assistant Lecturer/Research Fellow, Faculty of Law Makerere University in 1981. In 1981 - 1989 he worked as a Magistrate Grade One and in 1989 he rose to Chief Magistrate. He was appointed Inspector of Courts in 1991 where he worked till 1993 when he was appointed Chief Registrar/Permanent Secretary in the Courts of Judicature. In 1995 he was appointed Director of Public Prosecutions which position he holds to-date. Mr. Buteera is currently the Project Director of the Netherlands-Uganda Support to Public Prosecutions Project.
