Information Systems The section of Information Technology currently consists of a Prinicpal Systems Administrator who is assisted by Super Users, these are staff who are trained to assist the Systems Administrator in some of his duties. Headquarters and the Buganda Road station have each got a Local Area Network. The Directorate of Public Prosecutions' access to Internet and E-mail is by wireless connectivity. Other DPP stations that are computerized so far are; Makindye, Nakawa, Masaka, Mbale, Mbarara, Fort Portal, Jinja and Gulu.Other systems available are; PAM which handles Project Accounting Operations; Navision Financials which handles DPP accounting operations; this has a server license and therefore can be accessed from the server. The future plans as far as Information Technology is concerned is to have a Wide Area Network where the Headquarters is linked to other computerized stations within the country. This will also facilitate effective sharing of information with the Judiciary, which has a Comprehensive Computerization Programme. PROCAM (Prosecutions Case Administration and Management) PROCAM is simply a computerized filing system and records manager where by all records concerning police files and prosecutions at the headquarters and stations are fed into the system and information. This information can be accessed and updated as required and when necessary. At the end of every month the Data Manager assisted by the Systems Administrator generates and produces reports from the system which reports include the bail report, committed cases report, completed case statistics and workload per action officer report. PROCAM is at the moment operational in Headquarters and Buganda Road stations. In the medium term PROCAM is to be installed in all stations where there is a Resident Judge and a manual version of PROCAM is to be introduced to all the stations that are not computerized. Through PROCAM it is now easier to get returns, which guide Administration in planning and decision making. It has also helped in fast tracking the location of files which has reduced on loss of police files. Information in the data base is shared with the Judiciary, and in the long run will be shared with other departments in the criminal justice system for proper record of suspects and criminals, history of cases, improvement on record keeping and data use. |
